Shai Langen è un designer dei materiali e artista visivo con studio ad Amsterdam. Nei suoi lavori trasforma e rimodella il corpo umano in modo performativo e intuitivo, attraverso la sperimentazione con la materia. Affascinato dal modo in cui il materiale diventa forma e la forma si tramuta in simbolismo, dà vita a una ricerca sui tessuti con l’obiettivo di immaginare nuovi modi di pensare la corporeità fisica.
Project
Secondo una visione aperta di futuro, il corpo umano potrà essere fatto crescere in laboratorio. Da qui parte Chimera, una ricerca materiale e visiva, in cui il corpo è un amalgama di sintetico e organico e la pelle è infestata da entità simili a funghi, di cui il corpo si nutre. Strutture cellulari sintetiche vincolano la sua carnalità crescendo per inerzia, in attesa di svelare funzioni di nuova formazione. Questo nuovo corpo malleabile diventa così un luogo, nel quale sostanze parassitiche plastiche emulano l’immateriale, rivelando a livello intuitivo il suo architetto.

Shai Langen is an Amsterdam based material designer and visual artist. In his work he transforms and reshapes the human body in a performative and intuitive way, by means of material experiment. Fascinated by the way material becomes form and form transforms to symbolism, he animates material and uses this material to explore the way we think about the body.
Project
Chimera consists of a material and visual research into a contestable future in which the human body is grown and cultivated. A material based entity whose boundaries continually undergo reconstruction, turning from a solid to a liquid form. Here it has become an amalgam of the synthetic and the organic. The skin infested by fungi like textures, feeding its host. Synthetic cellular structures constricting its carnality, growing in stasis, waiting to unveil its newly formed functions. This new malleable body has become a place where plastic parasitic substances emulate the immaterial, intuitively revealing its architect.
